Description:

    Ceramic pipe for smoking tobacco of "Turkish" type, 17-18 centuries. A unique rare item for museum assemblies. One of the earliest samples of smoking accessories in Russia. With mass distribution of smoking in Europe since 16 century people were used white clay pipes with a long monolithic mouthpiece. In Russia, Ottoman empire and the adjacent countries popularity was received so-called "Turkish" pipes (executed of red clay, with the short plug for a wooden mouthpiece). "Turkish" pipes were made by way of punching in the bilateral form. In Russia the pipe was especially important accessory as according to the Peter decree from 1697, the tobacco smoke was authorized to be inhaled exclusively through a pipe. The presented pipe is made of red clay and is ornamented. On the bottom part of the plug there is a break piece.
